In the ED, consultation is a large part of what we do. Even if it’s your best friend you are calling, remember what they are doing at the time of your call. They are in a busy clinic, in the OR, at home attempting to have a semi-normal on call dinner, or in dream-land. Keeping this in mind, brevity is key. In this series of posts, We’ll outline simple methods to improve communication with our colleagues and ultimately improve patient care.
One idea I just came across is the idea of a “pitch”. The link below from Lifehacker shows how to create an effective pitch for an idea in the business world. Use the examples to outline your next consultation, and hopefully you’ll hook your audience quickly, before they begin to nod off again.
